Dr. Alex Johnson is president of Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. From meager beginnings in a segregated southern town, he has carved out a distinguished career aided by friends and colleagues. Dr. Johnson's 43 years in higher education, including 28 years as a college president, highlight a record of accomplishment that enables him to offer organizations and leaders a unique perspective that is universally applicable, as presented in Capturing Change and his previous book, Change the Lapel Pin. These books are among his many publications on college administration and his teaching field, special education.Dr. Johnson is nationally recognized for sharing his time and ideas as a board chair of the American Association of Community Colleges and the nonprofit Achieving the Dream, and as a board member of the Association of American Colleges & Universities, the American Council on Education, the League for Innovation, and many other organizations.
Although he has received many awards and honors, Dr. Johnson is proudest of Cuyahoga Community College's achievements, which include the Futures Assembly Bellwether Award, the Kisco Foundation Kohlberg Prize, the Aspen Institute Stem Award, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program's Top 150, and eligibility for Achieving the Dream's Leah Meyer Austin Award.
