When I first entered the field of medicine as a cyto-technologist in the early 60's, most people were not familiar with a pap smear. I was fortunate to have as my instructor, Sara Hodges, one of the pioneers in Cytology. She had worked with and was a student of Dr. George Papinculau, for whom the pap smear was named. In comparison, Celiac Disease today is also unknown to many people. Since I have the disease I am frequently asked about it. I decided to write this book in the hope more people will become as aware of the seriousness of this disease as we all know the importance and seriousness of pap smears. I fervently hope this book will bring awareness of Celiac Disease and improve the health and wellbeing of those at risk.
