A body is found in woodland bordering the village of Pondswell, clearly a case of murder. Unfortunately, it is found in a spot used by the local Pagan group for their rituals. Inevitably this casts suspicion on them, and their leader, Elaine Morris, is angered enough to decide to investigate the case herself, using methods not usually employed by the police. Caught in the middle is community police constable Roger Pritchard, who lives in the village and who finds himself distinctly smitten by Elaine. He, therefore, has a foot in both camps. Who will solve the case? It's five to two the cops, three to one the coven, and they're under starter's orders.
