Judge (1851-96) was an Irish-American mystic, esotericist and occultist, and one of the founders of the original Theosophical Society. His family emigrated to the USA from Dublin when he was aged 13 and at 21 he became a naturalized US citizen. Judge became the General Secretary of the American Section of the Theosophical Society in 1884. He wrote articles for various theosophical magazines and also the introductory volume, The Ocean of Theosophy, in 1893. This introduction to the doctrines of theosophy is reprinted from an edition of 1910.
