1. The Hare on the Hunt A big crowd of animalsee¨Got together and caught a bear:ee¨ They felled him on the open field -ee¨ And were deciding among themselvesee¨ Who was to receive what in reward. ee¨A Hare came forward and tugged at the bear's ear .ee¨"Well, well, you, slant-eyed creature, "ee¨They shouted at him. "Where did you come from? ee¨No one saw you on the hunt. "ee¨"Look, brothers," the Hare replied. ee¨"Who do you think frightened the beast out of the woods, ee¨And drove it straight to you on the field, if not I?" ee¨Although such boasting was too transparent, ee¨Still, it seemed so amusingee¨ That a tuft of the bear's ear was given to the Hare. ee¨------------------- Though they laugh at a braggartee¨He often receives his share of the spoils.
2. The Pig A Pig once intruded into a manor-house yard, ee¨Loitered around the stables and kitchen,ee¨Rolled about in the rubbish and the manure,ee¨ Wallowed up to the ears in the mud: ee¨And, after visiting ee¨Went home as dirty as a pig.ee¨ "So then, Havronya, what did you see there? "ee¨A shepherd asked the Pig.ee¨ "You know, the rumour goes, ee¨That rich people have nothing but jewellery and pearls.ee¨ So is one thing really richer than another in the house? "ee¨Havronya grunted: "Well, really, that is nonsense. ee¨I noticed no riches:ee¨I t was all just manure and rubbish;ee¨ And so, not sparing my snout,ee¨I dug up there ee¨All the back yard." 3. The Wolf and the Fox A Fox, having eaten chickens to her fill,ee¨And stored away a nice little pile in reserve,ee¨Lay down under a haystack for an evening nap.
ee¨She saw a hungry Wolf come plodding along to visit .ee¨"What bad luck, neighbour!' he said .ee¨"I have been unable anywhere to find even a bone; ee¨I am so worn out with hunger.ee¨ The dogs are vicious, and the shepherd doesn't sleep .ee¨The only thing to do is to hang myself!"ee¨"Really?" - "Yes, it's true." - "My poor friend!ee¨ Would you like to eat some hay? Here is a whole stack; ee¨I am willing to do my friend a service."ee¨However, it was not hay her friend wanted - but meat.ee¨ Yet about the store the Fox said not a word.
ee¨And my grey marauder,ee¨ Having been shown such great kindness by his friend, ee¨Went home hungry.
