The Abhidhamma gave analytical expression to the Buddha's teachings, proposing a comprehensive framework of precise principles that could encompass the entire world of experience. The basic premise of Abhidhamma was the notion that all phenomena of experience can be explained on the basis of a number of elementary constituents, called the Dhammas.
