In order to elucidate the philosophical relevance of the Zen notion of no-self, this text applies Dogen Kigen's religious philosophy and the philosophy of Nishida Kitar to the philosophical problem of personal identity. More specifically, it probes the applicability of the concept of no-self to the philosophical problems of selfhood, otherness, and temporality, which culminate in the conundrum of personal identity.
