Miroslav Kubat received the PhD degree in 1990 from the Technical University of Brno, Czech Republic. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Miami.His main research interests are in machine learning, neural networks, and data mining. Prior to coming to Miami, he lectured at various universities in five different countriesAustria, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, and the United States (alphabetical order). He has published more than 60 scientific papers and coedited the books: Machine Learning and Data Mining: Methods and Applications (Wiley, 1998) and Machines that Learn to Play Games (NOVA Academic Publishers, 2001). He has served as a program chairman on four interational workshops, has been on the program committees of 20 conferences, and is on editorial boards of two scientific journals. He is a senior member of the IEEE.
