Dr Stephen Langford joined the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in 1983, beginning a 32 year career during which he saved countless lives. During his service Stephen worked to introduce dozens of medical and technical innovations that would improve the quality and speed of care in the RFDS. Some of these innovations include the introduction of blood-clot busting drugs for heart patients, ultrasound diagnostic capabilities in crafts, treatments for preventing premature birth, as well as a campaign for a fast Hawker 800 jet to improve medical response times to extremely isolated communities. Stephen is now the current Medical Director for the RFDS in Western Australia, and has made a tremendous impact on health in remote Indigenous communities. He is also a National Finalist for the 2016 Local Hero Awards, a category of the Australian of the year awards.
