Levi Lee, a 28-year-old former high school hoops star, loses his job in New York City and returns to his hometown of Lewiston, Maine (a French-Canadian, working-class town). He nears personal redemption over past demons as he reverts to former glory playing assistant coach under the direction of his younger cousin, Chad Freeman, 25; the recently named head coach of an elite, boys' high school basketball team. Only after experiencing a mid-season moment of resentment, Levi, feeling past notions of irrelevance, spitefully takes on an unanticipated opening as head coach at his rivaling alma mater. Furthermore, Levi starts a romantic relationship with a high school classmate, Jennifer Péron, a recent ex-girlfriend of Chad. The season ends with Chad and Levi pinned against one another in a high stakes state championship match-up, a game where the victor will fatally lose just as much as he gains. In the end, Levi may have won the state championship and Jennifer, but Chad cannot take measures into his own hands¿ and ensures Levi never has the chance to beat him again by murdering him and Jennifer in an all-out mass shooting killing spree.
