Originally published in 1978, The Chapter of the Self is the fifth publication in a series of books published by The Buddhist Society in association with the Trevor Leggett Adhyatma Yoga Trust. In the Apastamba Law-book, an ancient Sanskrit text dating from before 300 BGE, there is a chapter on the realisation of the Universal Self through yoga named 'The Chapter of the Self'. In this publication author and yoga teacher Trevor Leggett presents a translation of this significant chapter alongside a commentary on the text by Sankara, India's greatest philosopher, who was also a teacher of yoga. The second part of this book is devoted to yoga practice, which Leggett proposes 'removes the obstacles to the full manifestation of that obscure awareness of freedom which is innate in man.' The third part of the book, entitled Knowledge, explores what knowledge of the Universal Self means. Also included in this new edition of The Chapter of the Self is a section by Leggett on 'How to use this book', which provides a helpful guide for the reader. Book jacket.
