Aschildren, Bob and Dave Switzer spent their summers on Pistakee Bay. They lived to ride in fast boats on the Fox Chain. After WWII Bob, Dave and their father, Russel founded Switzercraft Boats in McHenry, IL. Russel was their guide. Bob was the boat racer and marketer. Dave was the engineer, designer and boat builder, in addition to doing some of his own racing. The Switzer's built small world class outboard race boats and went on to build larger outboard and inboard wooden and fiberglass family runabouts for the consumer market. Dave concieveed and built a world class and multiple world speed record setting, twin sponsoned, twin outboard engined 'flying wing'.

The fiberglass version of this boat was licensed for exclusive manufacturing and sale trough Kiekhaefer Mercury. Their catamaran hull design helped pave the way to development of today's single engine tunnel hulled Formula-1 and Champ race boats.
