Twentieth-centruy German paintings, acquired in the 1960s by the late Baron von Thyseen, form the core of the modern holdings of The Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. They revolve around three main groups of artists - Die Brucke, which included Kirckner, Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff and Pechstein, Der Blaue Reiter, led by Kandinsky and Franz Marc, and the Neue Sachlichkeit movement of Grosz and Dix.
