The House consisted of 119 Democrats and 118 Whigs, exclusive of five members from New Jersey whose certificates of election, issued under the broad seal of the State were chal l'enged. Both parties, meanwhile agreed to elect John Quincy Adams as Speaker, and his rulings quelled riotous proceedings.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
