This book focuses on the social care resources and service delivery for the disabled elderly in urban China and aims to explore the important issues about the roles of community to link diverse resources for supporting disabled elderly who are a rapidly expanding but vulnerable group in China. Furthermore, this book applies the qualitative research methods which are applied in this research for first-hand data collection and analysis. It investigates issues concerning lack of caregiving resources inside and outside of families for disabled elderly, the current model to deliver services, and the multiple social subjects to provide support from a perspective of resilience with respect to enhancing the quality of social care services among disabled elderly, and this is also the only book that highlights the key issue of targeted service model for the different recipients of caregiving services who are disabled elderly but with different care demands in China, which has rarely been discussed in previous studies. This book also discusses the social care issues of disabled elderly under China's recently reformed long-term care insurance and analyses the roles and impacts of the new long-term care insurance for disabled elderly which has been piloted since 2016 in China. "As China becomes a rapidly ageing society, it faces significant challenges in delivering services to the elderly. Yan Li delves into the issue of social care in an urbanising context and has identified an unstable assemblage consisting of state, market, family and voluntary actors who follow competing logics. This insightful book from long-term grounded research enriches our understanding of welfare regimes and institutional fragmentation. It makes significant contributions to ageing and social policy studies and is also cutting-edge research on China's urban social changes.

" -- Professor Fulong Wu, Bartlett Professor of Planning, University College London (UCL); Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK). "Professor Yan Li provides a brilliant, clear-eyed examination of the profound structural challenges facing China's eldercare infrastructure. By unpacking the realities of the Long-Term Care Insurance reforms and the persistent silos between medical and social care, Social Care for Disabled Elderly in Urban China offers invaluable insights for health policy analysts globally. It is an essential read for anyone seeking to understand how rapidly aging societies can bridge administrative divides to build truly integrated, sustainable care systems." --Professor Xiaolin Wei, Dalla Lana Chair in Global Health Policy, University of Toronto; Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (FCAHS).
