Colonel Dante James Wixton, sixth Duke of Wixton, at three and fifty years of age, finds himself forced to start over at a time in his life when he thought he would be anticipating the arrival of his first grandchile, but instead he just had to bury his youngest son. Now he was the last of his line and with the dukedom in jeopardy, and only a very distant American cousin to inherit, he has little choice but to propel himself back into society to find himself a young wife to give him sons, but he finds it almost more than he can bear.
