This book is a series of lesson plans, compiled by Medicine Wheel Education, for teachers to use in their classrooms. It includes lesson plans, student activities and pages for coloring. Each of the lessons has been approved by Elder, teacher and author Kevin Locke. The main point of Dawn Flight is to show how the eagle represents or symbolizes the ascendant nature of the human spirit. The eagle is a sacred being, a reminder that each of us is on a journey to become spiritually stronger and more connected to the Creator. The way we do this is through developing the feathers, or virtues (courage, kindness, etc.). This encourages the growth of the human spirit.

Kevin asks that teachers keep this in mind when working through the lesson plans. Activities included in the book are a brainstorm map, a letter-writing activity, an eagle exercise, comprehensive questions, a sequence matching activity and a word search.
