As a boy, reading books like JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings or Arthur C. Clarke's 2001 A Space Odyssey had an immense impact on me. Alien life, other worlds, mystical creatures! it all seemed possible. But that was the magic! being able to convey one person's imagination to another. Having someone see into your mind's eye! It was something I had always wanted to do but never had the courage or fortitude to try. As life moved on, I left foolish notions of becoming an author behind and concentrated on work, home and family. It seemed though that life works in mysterious ways. After 20 years of Nursing, working in both clinical and managerial roles, I retired from the Health Service for health reasons.
One evening as I sat watching TV with my oldest son Conaill, I told him I was thinking of taking up writing. He got so excited! We sat and talked about what I would write about. Would it be a space novel? something with monsters? Would it be set in the past, present or future? The questions were endless and so was his enthusiasm! Spurred on by my son's eagerness to see my name in print, I decided to take the next step and write my own fictional works. Now an author, I spend my time writing young adult fiction.
