Christopher Love was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1618. He was converted at the age of 15, attended New Inn Hall, Oxford, and later assumed the pastorate of St. Lawrence Jewry in London, later becoming a Presbyterian. Because of Love¿s political leanings he was arrested by Oliver Cromwell¿s forces for his ¿alleged¿ plan to raise money for the restoration of the monarchy, a charge Love denied. He was arrested along with six other prominent ministers in London (all Presbyterians, including Thomas Watson), for treason. The rest were released after six months, but Love was beheaded on Tower Hill, London on August 22, 1651.This new book is a rare set of Love¿s individual works, each valuable in their own right. They include his sermon called, ¿The Hearer¿s Duty,¿ which explains how to be hearers and doers of the Word of God; another sermon called ¿England¿s Distemper,¿ in order to heal the wounds of a nation; two short works on buying and selling goods (which are outstanding and something every professing Christian should read before their next purchase of goods); and finally his treatise on Presbyterianism, ¿The Main Points of Church-Government and Discipline.
