Virtually an attempt to use neuropsychological methods to analyze the process of problem solving, this is the last book-length manuscript completed by Alexander Luria, the father of neuropsychology, before his death. His qualitative analysis of patients' impairments is simply breathtaking & once again, illustrates the advantages of this approach in formulating effective rehabilitation strategies for head-patients. Luria's pre-eminence as one of the world's foremost contibutors to our understanding of the human brain & to the eventual merging of neurology & psychology is now firmly established. As Robert Sbordone, the American neuropsychologist who edited the book said, despite his enormous academic accomplishments, Luria always remained a clinican & a clinical investigator par excellence. He did not rely on technicians or test scores to examine his patients, but drew instead on his vast experience of examining more than 65,000 patients during his career. We have much to learn today from Luria's qualitative analysis in treating the head injured. Clearly, Luria was ahead of his time, & he is ahead of ours now in many ways.
