Jean Mills is the author of four novels for middle readers (The Legacy; Wild Dog Summer; Abby and the Curling Chicks; The Toymaker's Son), and three books for younger ESL readers. Her essays, features, short stories and reviews have appeared in various publications across Canada, including The Globe and Mail, Quill & Quire, Canadian Geographic and Kayak: Canada's History Magazine for Kids. Jean has developed and taught writing and communications courses at three Ontario community colleges, and she used that classroom experience in her position as Writer-In-Residence at both St. John's-Kilmarnock School and Hillfield-Strathallan College. As a member of the Professional Writers Association of Canada, Jean won PWAC's 2009 Barbara Novak Award for Memoir/Humour Writing for her essay "The Roots of her Story." She is also a member of the organizing committee of the Elora Writers' Festival where she indulges her love of creative writing as Chair of the EWF Short Story Contest.Heather Wright is a busy freelancer, children's writer and part-time professor. As a freelancer, Heather has worked for educational publishers, non-profits and agencies.
Her feature articles, profiles and promotional copy have appeared in local and national publications. She loves research and has enjoyed writing many stories with historical settings for Kayak: Canada's History Magazine for Kids. Her books for middle readers and teens include Sherlock Holmes and the Orphanage Mystery, Writing Fiction: A Hands-On Guide for Teens, Writing Fiction: A Guide for Pre-Teens, 201 Writing Prompts, The Dragon's Pearl, and The Dragon's Revenge, all available at on-line bookstores.
