"A foot-filled look at early child development. There is a period of time in every baby's life when their primary interests can be boiled down to two things: other babies and their own 10 toes. This board book marries these objects of fascination by using photos of infants and toddlers to celebrate children's early milestones. From discovering their little piggies and using furniture to stand up to wearing socks and eventually first pairs of shoes, there are plenty of familiar moments here. Those too young to grasp the text will still enjoy studying images of their peers. The photo selection and design could be stronger, however; profile views or images of a child's back are not nearly as engrossing as full-face shots, while a spread that reads "On my tippy-toes I stay, / Almost walking--I'm halfway!" shows a child whose actual tippy-toes have been cropped off. Others images are more engaging and feature easily visible facial expressions of babies with diverse skin tones. The language is simple, and while the text isn't particularly memorable, gentle rhyme keeps things playful and moving.
