Discouragement is something that threatens the foundations of our faith. It tugs our hearts away from God. It tells us to give up. It tells us to make a big picture decision about God: Stop trusting someone who has done nothing for you; who has only taken from you: stolen your childhood, splintered your relationships, eaten up your time, commanded that you give him money. This is how the discouraged begin to experience faith, a little more each day seeing God through a secular lens, with theological amnesia: "Sorry, but who are you again?" God has an answer to this question. And it is not simply a list of claims you'd find in a systematic theology textbook. God has spoken personal, tender, caring answers to this question. If we are really among those beset by the acid of discouragement on our faith, his answers are worth considering.
