A serious question for you: Have you ever felt anxious, alone and that you don't belong? I don't strictly have an answer but what I do have is a series of four (so far) graphic novels that tackle these very serious questions in an entirely relatable, charming and heartwarming style. I see myself in these stories, myself on my worst days when, just like the ghosts everything is too much, and then myself on my best days when the world seems just right again. Perhaps you will see yourself or others you know. Above all I want to share these as they are important. Lonely or not I highly recommend The Sad Ghost Club. It starts off a fabulous graphic novel series by Lize Meddings that will help you find your kindred spirits, and yes the play on words is entirely intentional. This first title is entirely in black and white, apart from its cover, distinguished by its yellow title words and yellow moon. After all ghosts come out a night but they might still need to see too and perhaps that yellow moon will help you to see them too? Rather than being sad and haunting this story is uplifting.
It begins with a struggle, to get out of bed and start the day. Thoughts are anxious and launch themselves into a swirl across the page but then comes a surprise, more than one. A poster, an ad inviting you to join The Sad Ghost Glub where your kindred spirits will show you that you are never, need never be alone. Compassionate, compelling, ghostly this story is a lot of fun and a serious message all at the same time.
