A homeless family, which has been through a lot of issues, struggles to make a better living for their son. They decide to give their son, Jake, to another family, hoping he'll have a better life. The adoptive family finds out the terrible story that brought the Miltons in the streets. Flashbacks present the life in a foster house of Miley Milton, her life before this moment in a destroyed family and the way how they got in the streets. They talk about their fight to earn their living and their happiness. Life gives them another chance in their road towards happiness when they meet the adoptive family. Jake, their son, is an intelligent kid. Because of his brown skin and his seriousness at school, he is bullied by his colleagues.
His journey in school is briefly presented. Jake has good results in school and College but what happened to him in school changes him. He uses vileness to survive and cope with the issues he has. Soon after College he becomes the vice-president of a company involved in oil businesses. The things he has been through his childhood and the poorness from his first years changed him completely. He uses vileness, lies, force, humiliation, crime and manipulation in order to subject those around him. He sees that he has changed but he doesn't do anything to change that. He uses his influence to destroy his business partners and those who oppose to his ideas of businesses.
He uses his own band to kill and humiliate those who refuse to do as he says and he uses money to buy politicians and police officers. He uses his connections in the government, secret services to get more money and he supports those who bring him money. He becomes a notorious businessman and everybody is afraid of him. He makes use of his intelligence and power to avenge, cheat and humiliate. He becomes a cruel man who sees feelings like flaws and uses them to defeat his opponents and conquer women. He thinks he is invincible but in the end life gives him a hard blow. His health and the lost his family in a moment when he thought that nobody could touch him, put him down. In the end he sees his mistakes.
He understands that he lost himself on the road towards happiness. He understands that his revenge brought nothing good to him. A couple of years later, life gives him a second chance to find happiness.
