This book describes the formation of Lafayette Fisheries in 1981 and the decade of the company's activities in Alaska, buying and processing salmon, herring and crab. The book is based on interviews with more than 20 fishermen and people in the commercial fishing industry. There are multiple charts and graphs of trends in the fishing industry provided by economist Gunnar Knapp. Lafayette Fisheries was a corporation formed by fishermen in partnership with Bob Bingham that merged with Silver Lining Seafoods in 1991. There are separate chapters on the salmon and herring fisheries in Alaska, as well as chapters describing the economics of commercial fishing, processing and marketing fish. Numerous sidebars describe various elements related to fishing, including nets, boats, and equipment. The book is richly illustrated with photographs provided by fishermen and people in the industry.
