The Gryphon and The Lyre by Elliott Milstein is one volume containing two books: Laborers, a series of ten short stories (The Gryphon) and Suites, a collection of 36 poems (The Lyre). Each short story in the first volume reflects on, among many other things, some form of work. In these pages you will meet, among others, an autoworker, a lawyer, a Disney animator, and an Irish maid. Whilst the stories can be read in any order, the author suggests reading them consecutively. In the second volume, the poems are offered in three sections: 21 sonnets, 13 "etudes", and two long form poems. These may be enjoyed in any order, or, especially, randomly, the author himself being a rather random fellow. These tender morceaux are offered to you, gentle reader, humbly, and with hopes that you will enjoy them enough to recommend this book to others for their enjoyment as well.
