The aliens, known as the Krag, had taken many of the human race along with a fair amount of equipment. Congress had made promises that there would never be a repeat of history and it was a good thing that not everyone was taken away to work slave mines on another ship or world. Those who were taken too far could not be recovered.The United States, over time, repaired some of itself and the cities but not completely. There was an ongoing shortage of personnel and pilots. Recruiting for new people went straight the more experienced and capable members of the public to defend against any future attacks because of the losses.Jen, starting out as an investigator, knows that her planet is threatened again by an advanced culture as saucer appearances in the atmosphere have increased dramatically along with alien attacks.
