Nicholas Mulder teaches modern history at Cornell University. He specializes in 19th and 20th century political and economic history. His work has appeared in the Guardian , Foreign Policy , The Nation , New Left , and Dissent . He is the author of The Economic Weapon: The Rise of Sanctions as a Tool of Modern War (Yale University Press), which won the 2023 Stuart L. Bernath Book Prize from the Society of Historians of American Foreign Relations.
