DAVID MURA's most recent book of poems, The Colors of Desire (1995), won the Carl Sandburg Literary Award. He has also published two memoirs, Where the Body Meets Memory: An Odyssey of Race, Sexuality & Identity (1996), and Turning Japanese: Memoirs of a Sansei (1991), which won the Josephine Miles Book Award from the Oakland PEN and was listed among The New York Times Notable Books of the Year. His poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, The Nation, The New England Review, and The New Republic. Mr. Mura frequently speaks on race and multiculturalism at various institutions throughout the country. He lives in Minneapolis with his wife and their three children. After We Lost Our Way was selected by Gerald Stern for the National Poetry Series and was originally published by E. P.
Dutton in 1989.
