Robert Napier is a retired hardware and software engineer, technical writer and graphic designer. He served as an avionics officer with the Royal Australian Air Force, with a focus on digital electronics, airborne computer systems, and flight controls. While leading the Acorn division of Barson Computers in Australia, Rob wrote 'Networking with the BBC Microcomputer' in the early 1980s and contributed chapters to two related works. Since then, writing has been a large part of his professional life; often linked to software development, electrical engineering and military applications. Returning to the Department of Defence later in his career, he undertook engineering assignments for the Army and Navy. He also researched, wrote, designed and produced operational and strategic documents, and mentored subject matter experts writing documents for projects covering large investments in Australia's Defence capability. Rob has written for a Prime Minister, a Governor General, a state Premier, senior military officers, and government and private sector leaders. His work has included operating procedures and policy for land and maritime warfare, and for electricity distribution, power stations and gas plants.

He's also written a number of feature articles for ADM (Australian Defence Magazine). As well as his work as an engineer and writer, he's undertaken graphic design projects e.g. branding for the City of Whitehorse in Victoria, The Miss Australia Awards, and National Healthy Bones Week. His award-winning technical writing and graphic design work has covered: electronics & software engineering applications, public relations strategy & execution, advertising in print and electronic media, display and exhibition design, annual reports, prospectuses and strategy documents, and branding assignments.
