With more than 24,000 different varieties, butterflies live in every part of the in the world except Antarctica and over oceans. Their one requirement: They need flowers for food. While their life spans range from one week to one year, all butterflies go through incredible changes in their short lives, from egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly. Butterflies have many amazing ways to escape their enemies, but humans using insecticides, cutting forests, and building new communities are more dangerous to them than any predator.
