T The Weird Animal Experience: At this year's LA Times Festival of Books (April), we're creating an interactive exhibit. Attendees will enter an interactive booth showcasing our Weird Animals and will even create their own mythical creature-endangered species hybrids. Although not all events allow the space for this experience, a lot of the design elements can travel and be reused at any event. This will help us sell through the first edition of The Weird Animal Hour faster. Once the first edition is sold out (projected early summer 2026), we will shift to capturing preorders for the second edition. At all Oak Tree Comics events, we now have a six-foot-tall standee of our most popular Weird Animal (the dolphin-bigfoot). Our Weird Animal merchandising already draws attendees to our booth, and now it will be even more of an attraction and a boon for in-person sales. Promoting pre-orders and sales at in-person events: Author Josh Oaktree attends events year-round with Oak Tree Comics.
Events leading up to and following the book's debut include but are not limited to Orange County Children's Book Festival (September), LA Comic Con (October), and Jackalope Indie Artisan Craft Fairs (November and December), amongst others. Posting the sequel on social media: In the fall of 2026, we will begin work on the sequel to The Weird Animal Hour . Its working title is The Weird Animal Park. The Weird Animal Park will include 50 new Weird Animals. As part of our creative process for the first book, we shared time-lapse art of each animal's creation on TikTok. These videos were very popular and will provide a perfect opportunity to simultaneously plug The Weird Animal Hour. With The Weird Animal Park, we will have 50 new weird animals, i.e.
at least 50 posts once per week for a full year. This will bring fresh eyes to the series and to our publishing, generally. Wildlife conservation holidays: We post about our Weird Animals on environmental holidays that relate to each animal. For example, on World Elephant Day, we share facts about our Elephant-Griffin. On World Bee Day, we share our American Bumblebee-Cyclops. There are holidays to celebrate nearly every species. Upon completion of The Weird Animal Park , we will have 110 wildly imaginative hybrid animals to bring awareness to wildlife conservation. Seasonal campaigns: All of our books make for great spring/ Earth Month books.
Launch week giveaway: As part of launch week, we will be doing a Weird Animal giveaway where we will invite readers to create and post their own Weird Animals. Winners will receive a free signed book, plus Weird Animal merch, while simultaneously promoting the book's release. Free Educator Guide: During launch week, we will promote our free Weird Animal educators' guide: https://www.oaktreecomics.com/product-page/educators-guide-the-weird-animal-hour Targeted outreach for retail placement in zoos, aquariums, natural history museums, national parks, REI, etc.: Our Weird Animals thrive in environmental settings. We will contact and send out mailers to nature-oriented retail locations.
