David Guthrie completely transformed a 3,300 square foot penthouse apartment in a 30-story highrise in Houston, Texas. A single investment broker that travels extensively. The client who is requested open space with a sense of day-to-day informality, with the ability to entertain. The open space of the L-shaped apartment provides a 280 degree vista of downtown Houston. Concrete slabs, shear walls, glass and metal skins, and utilitarian appliances create an ephemeral sense of architecture. Guthrie strove to embrace the architecture of the skyscraper rather than chop the space into small rooms. The result is "floating" boxes within the space that do not interrupt the view.
