Shodo Spring (US), Densho Quintero (Columbia), Mokusho Depreay (Belgium), Eido Reinhart (US), Doju Layton (US), Shoryu Bradley (US), Hoko Karnegis (US), Shoju Mahler (France), Kaikyo Roby (US), and Jokei Whitehead (US) are students and dharma heirs of Shohaku Okumura, abbot of Sanshin Zen Community in Bloomington, Indiana. Okumura Roshi is recognized for his unique perspective on the life and teachings of Dogen Zenji, derived from his experience as both practitioner and translator, and as a teacher in both Japanese and Western practice communities.
