Building the New World : Work, Politics and Society in Caversham, 1880s-1920s
A sequence of essays explores the ways in which locality, labour processes, politics, culture and society shaped each other in the suburb Caversham in Dunedin at the turn of the century. The author makes use of the Caversham data base at the University of Otago, developing the discussion to a more general level. The book offers insights into political developments in the early twentieth century. Contemporary photographs and cartoons illustrate the text.
