In its mysterious singularity Chaco Canyon has occupied a central place in the speculations and imaginings of hundreds of thousands the world over. Chaco's unique place in the Anasazi world has made it the subject of generations of intensive scholarly attention. Yet in conventional Western terms, our understanding of Chaco remains far from complete.
