This edition replaces Athenian Radical Democracy. It includes much material from that volume. In line with recent volumes it includes also more commentary and discussion. Material from the fourth century has been added to widen the scope of the volume and provide a guide to practice in the fifth century. The source material has been reorganised: Part I covers How Athens became a democracy; Part II covers Athenian democractic institutions; Part III covers Democracy in Action. This volume provides an index of passages, a general index, a glossary of terms and notes on the authors. This volume continues to provide the prescribed texts for AS Level Ancient History.
