Girl Empowered! Facilitator Guide is a complete ten-session group curriculum for teen girls, designed as the practitioner's companion to Victoria Penley's Girl Empowered! A Two-In-One Guide and Workbook for Confidence, Friendships, and Social Anxiety in Today's Digital World. Each of the guide's ten sessions corresponds to one chapter of the main text, and each is built to run whether or not participants have read the chapter beforehand. The sessions address self-criticism and the inner critic, social anxiety and physical grounding techniques, friendship formation, social media use and social comparison, assertive communication, personal boundaries, bullying and bystander response, reading social cues, resilience after setbacks, and consistency of identity across contexts. Every session follows a consistent structure: an at-a-glance summary noting timing, materials, and expected disclosure level; an explanation of what group practice adds that solo reading cannot; preparation notes; a timed session plan; discussion prompts organized into three tiers of personal disclosure; guidance for common derailments; indicators that a participant may require support beyond a skills curriculum; format adaptations; and a reproducible handout. All ten handouts are collected in a final chapter, with photocopy permission granted to purchasers for use with their own groups. The curriculum can be run in full across ten meetings of forty-five to sixty minutes, condensed into six paired sessions, delivered as a single ninety-minute to half-day workshop, or adapted for one-to-one mentoring. Supporting material covers group size, room setup, phone policy, the construction of group agreements, core facilitation technique, and closing the group. A chapter on scope, safety, and referral precedes the first session.
It addresses the limits of a skills-based curriculum, signals warranting follow-up, response to disclosures arising mid-session, and preparation of referral pathways before they are needed. Crisis and referral resources, a research bibliography, and further reading for facilitators are included. The guide is written for school counselors, teachers, youth workers, mentors, social workers, troop and youth ministry leaders, and others running groups for adolescent girls. It presumes no clinical training and states plainly where facilitation ends and professional referral begins.
