Barbara Lynette Peters was born in Miami Beach, Florida in 1961. She is the fourth daughter of Hiawatha and Minnie Hilliard. She and her siblings-including their only brother-grew up in Liberty City, a neighborhood within the City of Miami. Her life was greatly impacted by the family's involvement in their local church, and by five years of attendance at public school on Miami Beach. She credits her dad with developing her love for books at an early age; and her mom with planting the seeds of compassion for others. With the help of a very special guidance counselor, she attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables. She graduated in 1982 and 1992 with her undergraduate then graduate degrees from the School of Nursing. She has experienced nursing from various angles including in-hospital adult health, ambulatory pediatrics, public health, school health, medical-malpractice defense, and summer camp nursing in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State.

She is a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. In March of 1983 she married her college beau, Patrick Peters. God blessed them with two sons, Adam and Bryan, who they have had the pleasure of raising into adulthood. The family moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2003. They recently moved to Orlando, Florida in 2011. Although Barbara accepted Christ's gift of Salvation as a nine year old, she truly surrendered to Christ's Lordship in her life as an adult in 1992 in a local church in Weston, Florida. And since that time, God has been busy turning her life right-side up. Over time, God has given her a passion about sharing His truths on relationships and sexuality with others through writing, speaking and teaching.

She has published a variety of articles in Christian and nursing magazines as well as a hometown newspaper in Weston, Florida.
