It was decided after some consideration to call a halt to the 'History of England's Monarchy' at this point, with the death of George V and the highly controversial year of the three kings of 1936 as to go any further, it was thought, would entail leaving the realms of history and enter into the minefield of current affairs! It was a fascinating journey travelling from the Celtic Britain of 500BC, almost two and a half thousand years ago to relatively recently, observing the subtle and not so subtle changes that have occurred along the way, both to people and to events. All of which raises the question, for me anyway, do people shape events or do events, and circumstances, shape people? On that train of thought, when I look around the world today, warts and all, I don't see anything happening now that hasn't happened before, so I believe that the answers to today's problems lie in the past, it's just that people don't want to go there to look for them, and if they do, they seem to be incapable of learning from them, particularly today's modern breed of politicians!Whatever the answer is (if there is one), It has been thoroughly enjoyable putting it all together in what I hope is an interesting and readable format and to that end, I have deliberately refrained from getting bogged down with pernickety, exhausting detail and have preferred instead to surf through two and a half millennia visiting only the most pertinent moments, incidents and personages so I suppose that this could be accurately described as a compilation of cameos!Enjoy; DP.
