The story is set in rural Michigan early in the twentieth century and opens with the Groners in the bedroom struggling through that first night after escaping the villainous woman.  Clydis and Edith escaped her talons and made it home to Jericho but still fear for Edith's safety.  The villainous woman was still loose.  The outcome of a courtroom trial also hung over them.  Also, having been reared differently, she wondered if she could rear Edith properly. Their story is flavored by colorful, often humorous, characters who share in the dread of a muddy road.  The muddy road is symbolic to situations of suspense, romance, humor, horse rustling, kidnapping, life-threatening injuries, terror, tragedy, passion, woe, and triumph.  While coping with the situations, Clydis becomes indispensable in the community, but her friendship leads to a compromising situation at the little farm on Jericho.

The Brown Mud Of Jericho is the second of the Jericho Books by T. F. Platt, following on the success of  If We Make It To Jericho.  The Jericho stories are intended for adults and young adults.  The tales aren't lewd and they omit cussing.
