Jim Powell lives in the Somerset Wisconsin area with his artist wife, Edie Abnet-Powell. He resided in the Black Hills of South Dakota for the majority of the last twenty years, and before that in his native state of Minnesota. His writing journey started after he retired from careers in the justice system and the plastics equipment business. Jim has experience in many areas, such as horses, dogs, hunting, fishing and various sports, but claims expertise in none of them. That doesn't stop him, however, from including his wisdom on these subjects in his stories. You will also find a generous dose of social and political commentary. With a degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota and having worked with juvenile and adult offenders, some "inside the head stuff" gets sprinkled in as well. Plastics¿not so much.

War Shirt is Powell's third novel, following Bad Wing Crow and Spirit Ridge. There is also a poetry book, called The Phantom Poet of The Black Hills, that he wrote anonymously and more or less unintentionally. There is a good chance that his next work will feature many of the same characters who appear in Bad Wing Crow and War Shirt. Like those two books, it will endeavor to shine a light on the history and life experience of Native Americans and African Americans in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
