For over a decade, along with my wife, I owned and operated a cattle ranch in the south-central African country of Zambia. Without TV and little reliable world news, we were somewhat cloistered and spent most evenings listening to true stories dating back to the last century. Coming from an Irish thespian background did not make me the ideal worker of the land, yet I learned the hard way by trial and error. My motivation to write a book stemmed from the endless stories I learned. Hence, at every spare moment I had, I started to handwrite my story utilizing my knowledge of Ireland, her history, and the Africa I came to know, love, and attempt to weave them together in an action-adventure love story. After a couple of chapters, it all seemed to fall into place, and I could not wait to put more words on paper, albeit they were barely legible from my terrible art of scribbling.
