In times like these, where so many people are fighting for progress in such a variety of areas, I wanted to express how we still must battle ourselves, that the struggle eventually has to be internal. It's a reality that is present now but is also timeless. The setting, Danbury, CT, is a place conducive to this message. There is a certain harmony to Danbury not likely found in many communities. To me it is a model of the American Dream. I suppose everyone's experience is going to be different, but the story explores what happens when we fight our own demons somewhere that is nice enough for people who are content with nice enough. They say that history is written by the winners, but maybe that struggle manifests itself differently in different times. Any book is kind of a history.
The rulers of today are not exactly like the rulers of the past, we live in the corporate era, and this story tells of that battle, too.
