Both of these books examine the characteristics and habitats of animals at risk of extinction. The series follows a format of presenting the basic facts of an individual animal in a one-page chart. Chapters give basic information about the animal, threats from the past and present, and methods used to increase the population of each animal. As part of the MyReportLinks.com books, they include several pages of report links to Web sites, pictures, and information for further research. Purchase of these books gives your library access to these specific Web sites pertaining to each book. In addition to these Internet links, both books have the appearance of a computer screen including a toolbar across each page and almost all pictures and graphics are shown as a printout of a Web page. Some of these are clear, others were fuzzy and written information on these is not always clear to read.
The books present solid information that students will be able to use for science reports. The Internet sites will add a different dimension to the research and will appeal to middle school students. Chapter notes are written as footnotes in correct research format, which adds authority to each book. Bibliography. Index. Recommended., Library Media Connection April/May 2003.
