Lisa Rhoades holds an MFA in Writing from Columbia University and is the author of three poetry books. Her first book, Strange Gravity, was selected by Elaine Terranova as the winner of the Bright Hill Press Poetry Award Series and was published by Bright Hill Press in 2004. The Long Grass was published in 2020 by Saint Julian Press. Her latest collection, Central to the Task, is scheduled for release from Saint Julian Press in 2026. Her poems have been featured in Calyx, Nimrod, Rust and Moth, The Southern Review, Tupelo Quarterly, West Trestle Review, and many other journals. Her awards include a Poetry Fellowship at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, a Writer in Residence position at SWIMM/The Betsy South Beach, and a residency at The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. A native of the Midwest, she resides in New York City on Staten Island with her spouse. Before becoming a nurse, she taught at the CUNY College of Staten Island and Rutgers University.
She served as a Visiting Poet through Poets & Writers' Poetry in the Branches program and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. She is the mother of two fantastic people.
