Kurt A. Richardson, Ph.D., is founder of SynthetIQ Solutions and Head of Research and Development at Continuum Resources, where his work centres on applied artificial intelligence and machine learning for defence systems, model-based systems engineering, and the architecture of learning-enabled capability in mission-critical settings. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Southampton and an M.Sc.

in Astronautics and Space Engineering from Cranfield University, both in the United Kingdom. His engineering career spans civil, commercial and defence space. He has consulted for NASA, Thuraya, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, DIRECTV and Continental Airlines, among others, and received a NASA Achievement Award for his systems engineering contribution to the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. He has published more than one hundred academic articles and twenty books across a broad range of subjects, including the engineering of complex systems and the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning within it. He is a member of the Institute of Physics and of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
