Industrial Development and Competitiveness in South Africa : International Production, Multinationals and the Role of Government
South Africa has taken the orthodox path of liberalization and increased international integration following the first democratic elections in 1994. South African firms have also extended and deepened international linkages. This book explores the determinants of industrial development in the age of globalization through the case of South Africa. The main chapters evaluate the response to trade liberalization, analyze case studies of plastics and steel industries, assess industrial policy initiatives, and review the record of competition policy in the context of increasingly internationalized business.
