A graphic novel for young adults about Indigenous teens who have super powers. They struggle with relationships and with their mental health while fighting to save their community and the world against the evil corporation, Mihko. In this volume, we see Mihko's new villains and their terrifying abilities, and we explore the relationships between the main character, Cole, and his friends and loved ones. Competition with other graphic novels that focus on teenage superheroes. However, this series has an edge by having Indigenous characters written by an Indigenous author. It features non-cliche conversations about mental health and recovery. The characters sound relatable and realistic as they deal with personal loss and trauma. The series utilizes elements of horror mixed with sci-fi, and Indigenous horror novels are currently popular.

This series features several interesting female characters, on both sides of the conflict, with layered backgrounds, motivations, and personalities, as well as professions such as scientists, doctors, law enforcement, computer experts, etc. David A. Robertson is the author of the immensely popular middle grade series The Misewa Saga, which features the novel The Barren Grounds. He is the author of over 25 books and was the 2021 recipient of the Writer's Union of Canada's Freedom to Read Award. The series has received great reviews, including a recommendation from School Library Connection, describing central character Cole Harper as, "A truly original superhero." The Horn Book commended it for, "Refreshing ironic humor." This book was printed in North America by Friesens, the first FSC-certified printing company in Canada.
